The Pennsylvania Postal History Society would like to invite you to join us for Rick Leiby’s presentation on “Freight Money”. That term describes covers carried on a non-contract vessel for a private fee. The Post Office became involved to increase their volume of business.

Rick is a former President of the PaPHS and former Editor of our journal, the Historian.

 

 

Portugal to and from PA – Steve Washburne

A native of the Jersey Shore, in 1967 Steve came to Philadelphia to teach Organic Chemistry at Temple and has lived here ever since. Collecting Portugal since childhood and exhibiting since 1980, seven different exhibits earned national grands and four international gold. A national and international (FIP) qualified judge, he’s served leadership positions in the APS and several other organizations, including most recently the PaPHS.

Bill Schultz and Jasmine Smith Win Large Vermeil Award for Literature

Bill Schultz and Jasmine Smith have received a Large Vermeil Award from the CHICAGOPLEX 2020 Literature Palmares on November 21, 2020. The award was for their writing on the Scarce Postal Rate of 6 1/4 Cents.

Bill and Jasmine conducted a presentation on the subject to our members on November 5, 2020. It was an excellent presentation and we really appreciated them sharing their knowledge and experience with us!

Bill Schultz, an accredited APS Chief Judge, with Jasmine’s assistance, presented a 20 +/- minutes commentary including Q/A on the just-released (2020) “Scarce 6 ¼ Cents Postage Rate Census” which was generated by Bill and Jasmine. The presentation encompassed PowerPoint views of the covers and the related obsolete bank notes (currency) of the 1821 to 1845 pertinent era.

Jasmine Smith, noted Postal Paper Restoration Expert provided an in-depth discussion with PowerPoint examples on “Paper Restoration Techniques” including Q/A on the fascinating process. Jasmine provided numerous insightful tips for all stamp collectors. This portion was also about 20 +/- minutes.
